The Military Alternatives Education Project (MAEP) is holding a logo design contest for Junior and Senior highschool students (or youth ages 16 to 19 currently employed or seeking employment). Creative youth from Onondaga County have the opportunity to design and submit a logo for MAEP, to be used on materials and for recognition of the group. The winning design will be awarded a $200 cash awardÊ - a secondary award of $100 will be given to a runner up, and $50 to a second runner up.

The Military Alternatives Education Project is a coalition of local peace and justice organizations. We work in schools and in the community to educate students and youth about the fine print of military enlistment, to provide truth in recruiting practices, and to promote alternatives to the military after high school.

To submit a logo design, send to the address below and include the following:

Name
Age
Address
Phone Number

All submissions should be received by May 2, 2008, and winners will be announced at the MAEP Alternatives Career Fair on May 14 at the Westcott Community Center. CDs or hard copies can be mailed, with the above information, to:

Tips for creating a logo:
Artwork should be between 1'x1' and 5'x5'. Logos should be simple (so that they are not easily distorted when resizing or copying), emphasize the values of the group, and be unique to build recognition of the group it represents. Logos may include the full name, tagline, acronym, or no words at all. "Resist - Don't Enlist" could be used as a tagline, and represents the mission of MAEP. Most of all, we hope submissions will be creative, and fun to design!
