2007 Program Summary

1. US Global Agenda/Militarism
US out of Iraq – current focus is “Local Cost of the War” campaign
Military Alternatives Education Project (MAEP) – work with young people on alternatives to the military
• Study Group on US Global Agenda
Weekly Peace Outreach
• Americas Solidarity work –Caribbean Latin America Coalition
Annual commemoration of bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

2. Neighbors of the Onondaga Nation (NOON) –
continue with educational presentations, outreach & tabling, production and distribution of educational materials, SU collaboration

3. Anti-Racism
support creation of a group to explore and take action to address white privilege and white racism

4. Youth
Bikes for Peace
• Youth Anti-Violence Program – currently on hold

5. Coalition Efforts
Progressive Coalition
• Bill of Rights Defense Campaign
• Partnership for Onondaga Creek

6. General education & outreach
• Monthly educational program – make more useful/less dependent on staff time, proposal to make every other month a film showing. Non-film programs should either be timely for an existing SPC program priority or SPC-affiliated projects and allies should be invited to coordinate a program. Staff should feel free to cancel a monthly program if none of these options are fairly readily available.
• Tabling outreach & education
Creative Team – create volunteer team to think up and implement creative actions/materials for use at SPC events/campaigns

7. Media –
Convene a working group to evaluate SPC’s media work (print, web, audio/video, support for alternative media and approach to mainstream media) and develop a plan for a more effective/cohesive use of media

8. Creating Alternatives
• Program committee would like to develop a small, doable project in this area
Commercial Free Schools – commit to seek funding to implement this proposal
Parents & Children for Peace & Justice - commit to seek funding to implement this proposal
Community Non-violence Campaign - commit to seek funding to implement this proposal

9. Breaking events/Requests for solidarity –
staff should use the IAPs to evaluate any such requests and take action as necessary
