Action Guidelines
Suggested Action Guidelines for 9/29 The Upstate NY Antiwar Network (UNYAN) fully supports freedom of speech and assembly. We invite all who support the event to come to Syracuse and participate. We also recognize the challenge of bringing diverse groups together for a common event. In the spirit of promoting a successful event for all involved, we share the following information and suggestions. Action Guidelines adopted for 9/29 events: 1) In order to establish a sense of trust and safety, the
Upstate -Act respectfully toward all people we encounter. -Refrain from any physical violence or abusive language. Please remember that we are taking part in political action, and that our behavior influences the way we are perceived in the community we are seeking to engage. 2) Event organizers have agreed that Civil Disobedience (CD) would not be part of the 9/29 events given that: - both active duty soldiers and individuals not experienced in and/or with comfortable with CD will be participating on 9/29 - there are no real strategic targets for CD near event venues on the day of the event -all 9/29 events organized by UNYAN will be legal and permitted 3) Those who might wish to participate in CD would be asked to do their action after 9/29 and are encouraged to discuss their action plans with the Syracuse Peace Council (SPC) well ahead of time to coordinate. |
