Build Long-term Sustainability for SPC
Choices of a Contributor

By Susan S. Hansen
CFP,CLU,AEP,AIF

There are many ways you can support the Peace Council, through volunteering, pledging, or gifting during your life or after your life. Within each of those categories are various paths to support. You are probably familiar with types of volunteering or pledging but you may wish to know more about how you can make sure the Peace Council continues its mission for many years to come.

Life Insurance or Annuity - You would buy a life insurance or annuity policy and name
*The Syracuse Center for Peace and Social Justice as the beneficiary. Your retirement
plan (401K, IRA, 403b, etc.) paperwork has a place to name beneficiaries. One of your
beneficiaries could be the The Syracuse Center for Peace and Social Justice. A
term insurance policy's premiums may be an affordable amount for you to give each
month and could leverage itself to a large amount at your demise.

A Charitable Remainder Trust - You would set up an irrevocable trust that named The
Syracuse Center for Peace and Social Justice as the beneficiary at your death. During
your life, you could receive the income from the investments in that trust.

A Charitable Lead Trust - You would set up an irrevocable trust whereby The Syracuse
Center for Peace and Social Justice would receive income from the investments in the
trust for a certain number of years and your named beneficiaries would receive the
remainder of any investments in the trust.

Bequest- In your will you would name The Syracuse Center for Peace and Social
Justice as a beneficiary.

Donor Advised Fund - This is the equivalent of starting your own "personal
foundation" with as little as $5,000, and none of the complications or
expenses associated with a private foundation. When you open a Donor
Advised Fund, you receive an immediate tax-deduction and your funds can
start generating positive social returns through socially responsible investment
options you select. You grant to The Syracuse Center for Peace and Social Justice any
amount above $250 in any year you choose. Over several years you can continue to
grant money to The Syracuse Center for Peace and Social Justice.

Gifts - There is continually the opportunity to give cash, a mutual fund or stock, or real
estate to the The Syracuse Center for Peace and Social Justice.

Often the reason we contribute to organizations is because we feel a passion for the
mission. Our belief in the cause motivates us to pledge or to leave a legacy. In thinking about your commitment to the Peace Council, please consider the options described. If you have questions, they may be answered in future articles that will describe each type of donation more fully. Otherwise, feel free to contact me (315-637-5153,sue@hansensadvisory.com)with any questions.

The only work that will ultimately bring any good to any of us is the work of contributing to the healing of the world.
-Marianne Williamson
