Political Leaders Invited to Town Meeting Syracuse -
United States Senators Hillary Clinton and Charles Schumer and US Representative James Walsh were invited to attend the Syracuse Town Meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 11th from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in the Nottingham High School Auditorium, 3100 E. Genesee Street in Syracuse. The invitation requested that if they are not able to attend, the senators and congressperson should try to send a staff representative to the meeting.
The meeting is titled "Understanding How Our World Has Changed Since the Attacks on the World Trade Center." There will be an open forum in which all members of the community are invited to "speak out" at microphones in the high school auditorium. The program will, also, include a panel of local experts to answer questions and provide background information.
The panelists include Tazim R. Kassam, Associate Professor of Religion and Islamic Studies at Syracuse University, Keith Watenpaugh, Assistant Professor of History at LeMoyne College, Linda Martin Alcoff, Meredith Professor of Philosophy and Political Science at Syracuse University, and Naeem Inayatullah, Assistant Professor of International Relations and Political Science at Ithaca College.
The Town Meeting is organized by a group of 75 concerned citizens who met in September at the Westcott Community Center. While the group is not of a single mind about what happened, is happening, or what should happen, there was agreement that community discussion and debate is very important in this moment of crisis.
