Hiroshima/Nagasaki/Fukushima—Never Again

Syracuse Peace Council, Peace Action and local congregations will mark the anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the US and commit ourselves to abolish nuclear power and weapons. While there have been commemorations in Syracuse every year since 1945, this year is different, with the meltdown of three of the four units at the Fukushima-Daichi nuclear plants on everyone’s minds.

A War Economy Perpetuates Poverty

Fifty years ago, Lyndon Johnson declared a “War on Poverty,” ambitiously proclaiming that “the richest nation on Earth can afford to win it." Johnson's Great Society programs likely stemmed from his genuine concern for our country's poor, even though he ended up diverting precious resources away from programs of social uplift into the war in Vietnam.

Strike for Peace!
SPC Annual Bowlathon

The annual Strike for Peace! Bowlathon is scheduled for Sunday, March 30 at Bowl Mor Lanes (201 Highland Ave, E. Syracuse 13057). There will be two afternoon sessions. As always, this fun event will feature costumes, prizes, team spirit, and funny shoes! Spend an afternoon socializing with other peaceniks to benefit SPC’s peace and justice organizing.
